Starlifts Equipment

What You Should Know
About Your Stairlifts Equipment...

Stairlifts equipment generally refers to stairlift mobility devices used by individuals at home or in public buildings.

Domestic stairlifts are normally built to carry one person at a time.

Most stairlifts have a weight capacity of three hundred pounds, although some can accommodate in excess of that.

Ameriglide manufactures stairlift equipment capable of a maximum weight capacity of five hundred and fifty pounds. The height and disability of the user is also important when selecting the stairlift.

The individual's height will dictate the size of stairlift parts like the footrest and armrest.

Stair lifts equipment is the most economical solution to consider if your home has become inaccessible because an accident or ill-health has decreased your ability to use stairs easily.

The cost of acquiring a stairlift is much less that the thousands of dollars needed to renovate your home.

It also prevents you from having to decide to no longer enter areas of your home where using a stairs is the only solution.

If you are unable to purchase a brand new one, a used climber can be purchased if the stairlift parts are easily available.

Wheelchair Lifts

Some stairlift parts are made to carry a wheelchair for those persons who use them to get around.

Although available for use in homes, most wheelchair stairlifts are built for use outdoors and in public buildings to improve accessibility to the physically disabled.

Many of these have additional parts that act as a ramp for the wheelchair.

However, stairlifts equipment also refers to the various parts that make up your stair lift such as the rails, the carriage and tracks.

Various material are used to made the parts depending on whether or not they are for indoor or outdoor use, as well as the type of stairs they will be attached to. Starlifts Equipment photo

The carriage is the stairlift part of the mobility device that you travel in.

Most stairlifts come in two main models, the sitting model and the standing/perch version.

The sitting type comes with armrests, backrests and footrests for comfort.

Stairlift parts made for the standing/perch stairlifts are also fitted with armrests.

Customized stair lift parts are also available for users with special needs such as spinal injuries or with injuries that prevent them from bending at the knees.

Carriages of stairlifts are dependent on cables, chains, pulleys or rack and pinion parts to move along the tracks.

Stairlift equipment is made in such a way that they remain as unobtrusive as possible. As such they tend to move smoothly with barely a sound, thus not disturbing others.

There are generally no unsightly stairlift parts to spoil the beauty of your home.

The rack is where the stairlifts equipment is attached to the stair. The rail is what is used to attach stairlift parts to the stair.

Extruded aluminum and steel are the preferred material for use in making stairlifts and stairlift parts. Depending on the type of stairs and the type of stairlift equipment being installed, additional parts may be needed.

If you need to get stairlift parts for repairing your stair lift, it's best to check first with the manufacturer of the stairlift you are using.  When selecting a stair climber, it is advisable that you choose a dealer who can readily source the necessary parts from the manufacturer quickly and as cheaply as possible.
