Straight Talk About Straight StairLifts...

Straight stairlifts refer to the type of stair way that the stair chair lift will be attached to.

They are easier to install because there are no curves to take into consideration when designing or installing the unit.

One thing to know about a straight stair lift is that it is only considered straight if it is one unbroken stretch of rail. If your stair way is straight, then breaks at a landing and then become straight again, it can not accommodate one straight stair lift from top to bottom. This type of stair way will require two straight units.  The two straight stair lifts will still be cheaper than a custom designed curved unit

Is The Stair Way Sound

Although they tend to be easier to install, straight stair lifts pose their own unique installation issues. For instance, a straight stair way will require that the steps of the stairs be sturdy as often the stair lift will be attached directly to the steps.

This may call for minor reinforcement to the stairs to ensure that they can hold the weight of the stair lift and the added weight of a passenger. Installation time tends to be less for the straight stair lift as well, so there are many advantages to having a straight stair lift installed if possible.

The material of choice for straight stair lifts is aluminum. These units can be powered either by battery or electricity. Like most stair lifts, they also have backup power in case there is a power outage. The straight stair lift works just the same as stair lifts made for curved stairs.
